South Holland Centre: autumn preview

ADRIAN Edmondson and Pam Ayres are among the star names to appear at Spalding's South Holland Centre in the run-up to Christmas.

Comedian Edmondson comes to the centre on October 11 with the Bad Shepherds, fronting the folk gig with vocals and thrash mandolin!

Poet Pam will return to Spalding with material from her bestselling books, Surgically Enhanced, With These Hands and The Works, but unfortunately the October 6 show is already sold out.

The season starts with folk duo Chris While and Julie Matthews on September 18, to be complemented by "A Taste of Tradition" on September 19 which will let people try their hand at Appalachian Dance, Morris Dancing and Piano Accordion.

Local acts taking to the stage include:

*Act II: The Wedding Singer, September 23 to 26

*St Nicholas Players: The Likes of Us, October 21 to 24

*SADOS: Pizzas, Fries, Ghosts and Lies November 18 to 21

*Polka Dot Academy: West End to Broadway, November 28 and 29.

And the Academy returns from December 10 with its annual pantomime which this year is Peter Pan, featuring a host of professional performers.

Lovers of dance can enjoy Dance Essential youth dance on September 30, Mission Possible with street, hip hop, physical theatre and contemporary act State of Emergency on October 7, and charity event Endana's Fantasia on October 28.

Jongleurs Comedy Club returns on October 15 while further hilarity will ensue with comedian star of BBC programmes the Now Show and The One Show Mitch Benn and his Distractions on November 7.

And musical attractions include Stacey Kent in Concert (October 1), London Concertante Octet (October 3), Jessica Chan (November 14) and Bob Brozman (November 25).

There are also a host of events for young people including the popular Rock School and a new Tuesday community choir.
