Eloquent playing in Swineshead concert
THE avowed intention of the Davidoff PianoTrio ((Midori Komachi on violin, Thomas du Plessis on 'cello and Zenan Kwan on piano), a prize-winning young ensemble formed at the Royal Academy of Music is 'to explore the Romantic and Classical repoertoire', an intention they exploited to the full in their recent recital at the Village Hall, Swineshead.
The highly charged works, the Piano Trio No. 2 by Schumann and the First Piano Trio Arensky formed the core of their programme.
The former is a somewhat extravert work, its noble expressive slow movement and winsome scherzo unfold delightfully by these talented performers.
The Arensky proved a real 'find', its full-blooded scoring being very reminiscent of his comtemporary, Tchaikovsky.
Eloquent playing, particularly from the 'cellist, was much in evidence.
Haydn's Piano Trio in C (No. 43), with which the evening began, proved a perfect foil to the heady romanticism of the rest the programme, its skittish, joyous finale was absolutely captivating.
Another distinguished evening of music making promoted by The Windmill Studio.
