Duo move from shed to South Holland Centre
The Hut People – an accordian and percussion duo – are coming to Spalding's South Holland Centre on Wednesday.
Accordionist Sam Pirt is an experienced musician who is well established in the folk world.
Gary Hammond is the percussionist, who for the past 12 years has recorded and toured with The Beautiful South.
Sam plays the piano accordion, comes from Goole in Yorkshire and smiles a lot.
He was a member of the first English group to go to the Ethno Folk Camp in 1996, as a result of which he developed a huge interest in music from all around the world.
Having been back to Ethno with 422 in 2000 and 2001, Sam was asked to be an Artistic Leader for the following three years.
In 2004 Sam realised his dream of founding his own version of Ethno in England, which has since gone from strength to strength and runs in Yorkshire every July.
Sam has spent some time in Kenya where he learned traditional songs and dances from the Sengwer Tribe.
Gary has worked with Nina Simone and many other groups and set-ups within the folk music and jazz/pop world.
The duo's name is taken from their usual rehearsal room – Sam's garden shed.
They both have a love of Scandinavian, English and European folk tunes which are played with an accordion/multi-percussion twist, so expect drums, cow bells, and assorted exotic percussion instruments, all played with a smile.
Doors for the South Holland Centre show open at 8pm.
Tickets cost 5 (4 concessions).
