Calling the tune (by Tulip Radio)

A new year is a perfect chance to remember the achievements of the year gone by – and 2012 was quite a year for us and Spalding.

The 2012 Olympic Games in London exceeded the expectations of many and certainly increased the national pride and reputation of the country. Tulip Radio was present in the middle of town when the Olympic torch ran through Spalding on July 4, a moment we will all never forget.

In May, Jan was nominated to go to Buckingham Palace in preparation for the upcoming Diamond Jubilee, a wonderful honour for Tulip Radio. Spalding town went Royal crazy during the early days of June as the Jubilee celebrations got under way. The bunting was up and the flags were flying as local shops and businesses got into the spirit of things.

The annual Spalding Pumpkin Parade took place in October, proving to be another success. Tulip Radio were in the thick of it all day, bringing the community together and compering a great evening with a finale of fireworks sponsored by David Bowman.

Saturday, December 1 saw the introduction of a spectacular new set of Christmas Lights for the town. Tulip Radio helped with arranging a wide array of local entertainment in the town centre from the likes of the cast from Jack and The Beanstalk pantomime and many other selective acts. School choirs showed off their expertise and entertained the community, an event Tulip Radio were proud to be part of.

It is impossible to reflect on these achievements without being thankful for all the people who’ve helped us to make the most of these moments. So a big thank you to all Tulip Radio’s guests and volunteers for giving their time so generously and for the invaluable contribution they make to the life of the community through their work at Tulip Radio.

Tulip Radio would like to wish everyone in South Holland a very happy and prosperous new year and to thank all our sponsors and advertisers and the Lincolnshire Free Press and Spalding Guardian for their support in 2012.
