There’s bound to be a some hardship involved in real adventure, as members of South Holland Explorer Scouts know only too well.
The young people have completed a Duke of Edinburgh award scheme, a challenging experience in itself.
But Jack Barrs, a leader with the Explorer Scouts, said: “For many Explorers from South Holland Explorer Scouts, the Duke of Edinburgh award was a long road to completion, without a two-day expedition, carrying all their equipment!”
Nevertheless almost 30 young people were presented with various awards, including the Bronze Duke of Edinburgh award, Chief Scout’s Platinum award and Young Leader awards.
Jack said the awards also involve volunteering, developing a new skill and participating in a physical activity, something that offers young people a taste of adventure.
As one Explorer said, receiving the awards was a “great accomplishment and recognition of our hard work”. Visit southhollandexplorers.co.uk to find out more.
