Which figures are correct?
I agree with Peter Nicholson (Lincolnshire Free Press, July 5) that we need a review and an audit of police funding to establish the true costs of the police and the grants allocated.
Lincolnshire Police Authority and Mr Nicholson state that for 2008/09 the police will receive £41million which is a 6.5 per cent reduction on 2007/08.
I have received a letter from the Prime Minister and Tony McNulty of the Home Office stating: "In 2008/09 Lincolnshire Police Authority will receive £62.3 million in general grant, an increase of 3.1 per cent (£1.9million) over 2007/08.
"In addition to this the police will continue to benefit from specific grants and will receive an estimated £11million, including provision from the Neighbourhood Policing Fund.
I wonder which set of figures is correct and if a public review and audit could establish the truth.
