As chairman of the Flower Parade Operations Team, may I offer a huge thank you to my team of marshals and drivers who made the whole parade happen.
The parade is full of unsung heroes, and I put this team among them, giving selflessly of their time from early morning to late night, not just on Saturday, but for days before and after.

The introduction of illumination of the floats on Saturday evening involved more work, and the removal of floats from the Halley Stewart Field to Springfields on Sunday morning meant yet another early start.

The 50th Spalding Flower Parade was undoubtedly one of the best parades ever.

It was not without difficulties, many of which we will need to address strategically. But, for the tens of thousands who crammed the route on a beautiful day, it was a great parade.

Delegates to the World Tulip Summit from Australia, Canada and USA were hugely impressed that a small market town could put on such a spectacular show. Let there be no doubt that Spalding is recognised the world over for this unique event. We should be proud of what we have.

Without the backroom boys, and girls, there would be no parade. Well done, guys!

ADRIAN JANSEN
