I read (Spalding Guardian, May 1) that yet again Gary Porter is moaning about his allowances. Can't he understand simple mathematics?
Quite simply, £18,055 plus £4,911 equals £22,966, which is roughly over £400 per week.

Also, he is entitled to claim travelling expenses of 40p per mile, subsistence expenses of £5.70 for breakfast, £8.05 for lunch, £10.75 for evening meal and £105 for an overnight stay.

For those of us who do not own a computer, it would be interesting if the Spalding Guardian printed how much Mr Porter drew in expenses plus allowances last year.

MRS S BUTTON

  • Editor's note: SHDC leader Coun Porter drew a total of £23,888 last year, made up of £18,776 special responsibility allowance, £4,494 basic allowance and £618 expenses. Deputy leader Nick Worth drew £15,496, including £2,226 expenses. See Tuesday's Lincolnshire Free Press for all the councillors' figures.
