Heavy-handed security

Congratulations to the people of Spalding for yet another splendid flower parade. It is encouraging to see a whole town pulling together to present such a colourful face to its visitors.
In many years of attending the festival we have never encountered any problems with on-lookers' behaviour, have never heard of any accidents and the police presence was always subtle.
Can someone explain the sudden need for security operatives from SmartStaff?
They were overwhelming in number and some took an extremely officious attitude, interfering with the taking of photographs and moving people who had so much as a foot in the gutter.
They served only to irritate and annoy rather than reassure, made worse in one instance by badly fractured English.
Can the organising committee please consider carefully before allowing such steam-rollering of happy, law-abiding festival visitors next year – if not, I'll be staying away and if my conversation with others is anything to go by, so will they.
