IN response to Nigel Chapman's report (Lincolnshire Free Press, May 27) about pre-season groundwork being necessary at the Sir Halley Stewart Field following the flower parade weekend.
As secretary of Spalding United Football Club, I am writing to thank South Holland District Council for all their effort on the pitch after the flower parade.

The playing surface withstood an onslaught of people, fire and machinery during the weekend, but the council has stood by its word to get the pitch in good condition for the next season.

I have seen the workforce on the pitch for almost two weeks solid and with the current inclement weather, it is looking like green velvet.

Special thanks go to the ground force involved and to Mick O'Conner and Mr Perry for organising it.

It is really appreciated by all at Spalding United FC.

AUDREY FLETCHER
