Pitch in and help spruce up town estate's play area

People are being encouraged to roll up their sleeves and get planting and painting to spruce up a Spalding grot spot.
Groundwork Lincolnshire is holding a half-term event at Fulney Avenue play area when flowers and hedges will be planted at the site.
And it is encouraging primary school children to come up with a new design to be painted on the skate ramp.
The group is aiming to restore pride in the Royce Road estate and said the play area is seen as a priority by residents.
Senior development officer Gemma Rainsforth said: "The community wanted us to look at the skate ramp, which is a bit of an eyesore at the moment, so we are going to try to improve the play area and the general look of the place.
"I think lots of people say they don't like the way the estate looks so we want to brighten it up a bit. If kids are involved in designing the ramp then hopefully it might stop graffiti problems there."
Events will start on Monday (10am-3.30pm) when youngsters will meet at the skate ramp in Fulney Avenue play area before going to St Paul's Primary School to work on designs for the ramp.
On Wednesday (10am-3.30pm) there will be a Strictly Come Planting session for volunteers to plant trees, shrubs, hedges and flowers.
On Saturday, February 16 (10am-3.30pm), the final design will be painted onto the skate ramp.
Gemma urges Royce Road area residents to join in. She said: "We want to get as many people from the estate involved as possible and try to get people to feel good about where they live.
"We also want people from outside the estate to come and help. The Royce Road area has a poor reputation but it really isn't that bad. It would be good to combat that image."
