A budding young singer is being given a helping hand towards stardom by Spalding '60s band Sounds Force Five.
The band has already sold around 400 tickets for its Summer BBQ at Springfields Exhibition Centre, Spalding, on September 5 and be will joined by 20-year-old vocalist Abbie Matthews.

Abbie was a guest of the group in January and has now become a permanent member of the band, which is to perform with soul superstar Eddie Floyd.

Abbie hopes to apply for the X-Factor and is grateful for the help Sounds Force Five has given her.

She said: "I am more than delighted to be part of a band which has such talented musicians.

"I have been invited into the studios with the group and Len Doughty (keyboard player) has already written a song especially for me.

"It's fabulous."

Drummer Colin Ward said: "We intend to send the song to all major publishers and record companies and who knows what could happen?

"Abbie has got a great voice and tremendous potential and we are all gunning for her. She has our total support."

Sounds Force Five's September gig looks likely to be a sellout.
