Staff at Smedleys Salads in Spalding successfully completed a course which helped them learn English.
A group of 13 workers from the Wardentree Lane factory spent two hours a week for 20 weeks getting a grasp of the language with University of Lincoln Holbeach campus tutor Lucy Oko.

Employees learnt how to fill in sample paperwork using pictures from the factory and practised the vocabulary needed in the community, which together helped them gain the City and Guilds adult literacy entry level award.

The awards were presented by managing director Steve Woolley. He said: "Effective communication is vital to promoting an efficient, rewarding and above all safe place to work.

"Working towards this certificate enables those colleagues for whom English is not their first language to also support this goal."
