Children nervous about the big step up to secondary school were given a much-needed confidence boost by an after-school club.
Year six students at Weston Hills Primary School who were apprehensive about the imminent move to secondary school were asked to join the Transition Club to discuss their fears.

Staff members Mandy Barton and Helen Fletcher gave up their time to run the club, mixing in fun activities with information sessions letting the children know what to expect come September.

The ten-week scheme, which ended with an after-school party, has been a massive success, with organisers hoping it can return next year.

Mrs Barton, club co-ordinator, said: "It was all about building up confidence and addressing the children's worries about going to secondary school.

"We hope we can run it again next year. The children found it very beneficial and the feedback from parents has been fantastic."
