World record attempt in Spalding pool

HUNDREDS of people will take to the water on Saturday in an attempt to break a world record.

The Rotary Club of Grantham is co-ordinating a global Swimarathon event and the South Holland branch of the Rotary Club has joined forces with South Lincs Competitive Swimming Club (SLCSC) to host the event at the Castle Sports Complex pool in Spalding.

The event will try to break the record for the most number of people swimming 100 metres non-stop between noon and 1pm.

The event is open to anyone who can swim 100 metres unaided and families can swim together. Registration is from 11.30am on the day.

The Guinness Book of World Records requires photographic evidence as proof that the event happened, so photographs will be taken at the pool.

The purpose of the event is to raise funds for the End Polio Now campaign and to create a new world record.

The record stands at 2,533 and it is anticipated that will be beaten. Fiona Turner, of SLCSC said: “It is certainly going to be historic event and will bring in people from as far as Stamford, Wisbech, Boston and Peterborough as we are the only pool in the area hosting it.”

If anyone would like a form there are some available at the swimming pool or email fiona.turner@slcsc.co.uk .
