Talks on saint

The life and times of Lincolnshire saint Gilbert of Sempringham came under the spotlight at Billingborough Village Hall on Saturday.
St Gilbert, who died aged around 100 in 1189, was the only English saint to have founded a monastic order.
Speakers at the annual event organised by Spring Wells Heritage Group were Dr Nicholas Bennett, who talked about Lincolnshire Cathedral Library and gave guidance on care of ageing documentation, Paul Cope-Faulkner, who talked about Gilbert’s Second House – detailing the history and archaeology of Haverholme Priory – and John Wilford, who talked about St Gilbert’s First Urban Monastery, St Katherine’s Priory Lincoln.
Mr Cope-Faulkner has previously spoken to the gathering regarding archaeological findings connected to St Gilbert. There was a major excavation at Sempringham in 2011.
