A GROUP of knitters in Spalding has a keen appreciation of the architectural detail of the town’s St Mary and St Nicolas Church.

They have been knitting a scale model of the building and are down to the final details, even though they only started work towards the end of last year.

Freelance mixed media artist Carol Parker explained that Unique Knitting, which meets at Unique Cottage Studios, has been participating in an ArtsNK project called Woolly Spires in which various groups around the county cover a model of a local church in wool from Lincoln Longwool sheep.

Knitters are working in what Carol calls a “brick stitch” while other members have crocheted and felted sections of the church.
