Schools across South Holland tasted success in various ways as they hosted a range of events in the area.

Stars were born at University Academy Holbeach which staged its annual UAH’s Got Talent last Saturday when students from across the campus showed off their singing, dancing and comedy skills in front of a sell-out audience.

The winner was pianist Harvey Tyler (Year Nine) who scooped a £100 prize, trophy and interview on Spalding’s Tulip Radio, while singer Steph Fortune (Year Eight) came second and singer/guitarist Emma Butcher (Year 11) was third.

Emma Foster, one of the organisers, said: “It was absolutely brilliant and we’d like to thank the local businessess that donated prizes.”

Holbeach Olympian Geoff Capes was the guest at a Duke of Edinburgh’s Award evening at the academy where more than 100 students from schools in South Holland received Gold, Silver and Bronze awards.

Peter Kite OBE from the area’s awards committee said: “It was the first time for a number of years that some schools in South Holland had students who received awards.”

Champions of a different kind were crowned at Sir John Gleed School where 115 students gained Sports Leaders UK awards after helping to run sporting events in primary schools across the area, gaining first aid qualifications and sport-related work experience.

Youngsters at Shepeau Stow Primary School had company for lunch as staff and parents joined them for National Roast Dinner Day to promote healthy eating amongst children.

Finally, St Paul’s Primary School in Spalding said goodbye to retiring governor Judy van Geest after 20 years’ service for which she was presented with flowers and a gift commemorating her time at the school.
