Pupils’ takeover is a first class day

Teachers at Surfleet Primary School had to be on their best behaviour on children’s takeover day.

Pupils were suited and booted for roles usually taken by adult members of staff.

Some chose to be teachers and others teaching assistants, caretakers, secretaries and, of course, the top job of headteacher.

Rachel Parsons, clerical assistant, said: “When a number of children wanted to do the same job they were interviewed for it by the headteacher.

“At one point we had a mock fire drill and two five-year-olds were counting how many children they had got.

“It was very sweet.”

Also on the day, Royal Horticultural Society certificates were presented to pupils for achieving their first benchmark by developing a garden and producing food to be consumed in school.

They are now making a greenhouse out of plastic bottles.
