Popular teacher dies at 69

Former Spalding High School maths teacher John Divall has died.

Mr Divall (69)taught maths at the High School from 1998 until his retirement in 2008. He was promoted to be second in the maths department in 1999.

Mr Divall suffered from a brain haemorrhage during the half term holiday and never recovered. He died on Tuesday.

High School headmaster Tim Clark said: “John was a larger than life character with a quick wit and infectious sense of humour.

“His easy manner and fun loving nature will be missed by us all.

“He was a tremendously accomplished sailor and was devoted to his grandchildren and family.”

Mr Divall was a late entrant into the teaching profession. After leaving school he worked in various manufacturing industries before going to university in 1976 as a mature student.

He started his teaching career at the King’s School, Grantham and then went to teach in Saudi Arabia with British Aerospace for ten years.

Mr Clark added: “We extend our deepest sympathy to John’s wife Carole and all his family.

“I shall publish funeral details on the school’s website as soon as I receive them as I am sure many staff and former pupils will wish to attend.”
