A SPALDING charity shop is hoping one donated item could bring in “record” profits when it is auctioned off to the highest bidder.
The portable HMV 78rpm record player in its original wooden carrying case with black leatherette finish and reinforced corners is being sold in a “silent” auction, by the Sue Ryder bookshop in Priory Road, Spalding.
It has been valued at £50 and anyone wishing to enter a sealed bid above that level should drop an envelope into the shop ahead of the announcement on February 29 of the highest bid.
The auction also includes three collectible 78s from the rock & roll era by the Big Bopper, Bill Haley and Elvis Presley, and the highest bidder will also be offered the chance to choose 20 more 78s from the range in the bookshop.
