New dig site to start

Pinchbeck History and Archaeology Group begins its preparation for opening up a new archaeology site in the village this weekend.

In the same area of Northgate off Herring Lane, but on a different field from last year’s exciting Healey’s Field project, group members David and Angie Hibbitt will be carrying out a geo-physics examination of two areas of land, to the left of Herring Lane as one travels from the village.

The field in question has, in recent years, yielded a wealth of religious and monastic artefacts to metal detectorists.

The new site examination will, depending on weather conditions, begin during the morning of both days.

The Healey’s Field site has not been forgotten but cannot progress without Heritage Lottery funding. The group has been promised a result on their application by March 14.
