Much-loved historian dies

THE death last week of long-time south Lincolnshire resident Peter Connolly has saddened those who knew him.

Peter was a historian of the ancient world and an illustrator of worldwide importance. He was widely published on the ancient Greeks and Romans and was a frequent speaker at Bookmark, the bookshop in the Crescent.

He featured in many television programmes on the ancient world and was in much demand for clarifying historical facts when the Hollywood film Gladiator was released.

Former local resident Ed Fordham described Peter as “a huge personality, with amazing warmth and a unique abilty to popularise history – he quite literally brought the ancient world alive.” A full obituary will follow.
