Join in district symphony composition

MUSIC enthusiasts are being urged to join in an exciting new venture to compose an exclusive piece for the district – the South Holland Symphony.

Workshops are being held from next month to create a sound in harmony with the heart and soul of the Fens.

London Mozart Players and South Holland District Council, with support from Orchestras Live and Arts Council England, are launching the project to give people the chance to take part.

The finished South Holland Symphony will last 30 minutes with three movements representing a different area of the district.

The South Holland Symphony Project is a series of workshops and concerts, which will culminate in the South Holland Symphony being performed by the London Mozart Players in the South Holland Centre as part of an orchestral concert on July 19.

A DVD of the performance will then be toured around the district via the District Council’s rural touring cinema, enabling people to experience the final piece.

The first two concerts include the London Mozart Players Chamber Ensemble performing the Mozart and Brahms Clarinet Quintets, featuring principal clarinet Angela Malsbury, as well as a composition taster session with Duncan Chapman to introduce the project to the audience and encourage their involvement.

These will be at Gosberton Methodist Church on Thursday, February 23 and Holbeach Methodist Church the following night (both start 7.30pm).

Composition workshops will take place on Saturday, February 25. Four further concerts with associated workshops will follow in March, April and May.

Tickets for the concerts are available from the venues and the South Holland Centre on 01775 764777.
