LONG Sutton girl Aimee Keir is off to India for the adventure of her lifetime with the Guides.

Aimee (16), a lower sixth form student at Spalding High School, will stay at Sangam, an international centre run by the World Association of Girls Guides and Girl Scouts.

Sangam is from the Sanskrit word meaning ‘coming together’.

The international centre is in Pune, 120 miles from Mumbai, and described as a safe place for Guides and Scouts to come together and share their experiences.

Aimee will stay there between August 18 and September 3 and understands part of her time will be spent teaching local children.

She said: “There’s quite a lot of poverty but right next door there’s the rich as well – it’s like complete contrasts.”

Aimee has belonged to 1st Long Sutton almost as long as she can remember, joining Rainbows when she was aged four and working her way up through Brownies.

She also has the distinction of holding the top accolade in Guiding, the Baden Powell Award.

Aimee had to undergo three rounds of selection at district, county and regional level before being picked for the trip.

She’s been on family and school holidays to Italy, Cyprus, Ibiza and France but the India trip will be something completely different.

Aimee said: “I am looking forward to experiencing a new culture.”
