Free NHS talk on obsessive compulsive disorder (OCD)
Health experts are in Spalding soon to give a free talk on a common mental health problem, obsessive compulsive disorder (OCD).
The event has been put on by Lincolnshire Partnership NHS Foundation Trust and it will be led by a service user, describing their own experience of living with the condition.
Consultant clinical psychologist Dr Tracey Swaffer said: “OCD presents itself in many guises and certainly goes beyond the common perception that OCD is merely hand washing and checking light switches.
“In general, OCD sufferers experience obsessions which take the form of persistent and uncontrollable thoughts, images, impulses, worries, fears or doubts.
“They (the thoughts) are often intrusive, disturbing and significantly interfere with the ability to function on a day-to-day basis as they are incredibly difficult to ignore.”
The event will be held at Spalding Services and Social Club at 24 High Street on Monday, November 26.
Doors open at 1pm for people to look at exhibition stands and talk to health care professionals.
The educational talk itself runs from 1.30pm to 4.30pm and there will be an opportunity to ask questions.
The event is open to everyone and people are welcome to attend with their family, friends or colleagues.
• To book a place please call 01529 222276/77 or email info@lpft.nhs.uk
The NHS trust governors will be attending to talk to visitors and to listen to their opinions about local mental health services.
