County highways is set to do road repairs in Bridge Road, Sutton Bridge, to help prevent flooding at two zebra crossings.

But the county council says it has no cash in its budget to repair the rest of Bridge Road.

Sutton Bridge Parish Council complained that rainwater runs off the road surface onto pavements because much of the road surface is higher than the pavements.

County highways say they can only repair roads at this time that are in poor condition and Bridge Road is in good condition.

• The parish council is objecting to a county proposal to remove a damaged grit bin from Chalk Lane and say it is vital for road safety.
