Bike raffle raises £2,500 for regiment

The Anglia Motel, Fleet, showed its support for soldiers on the frontline by organising a prize raffle which raised thousands of pounds.

Motel owner Harold Payne donated a 1960 Triumph Speed Twin motor bike, formerly used by the Metroplitan Police in London, to the Royal Anglian Regiment Benevolent Charity.

But rather than put it on show at their headquarters in Bury St Edmunds, the charity chose instead to put it up as the star prize in a raffle that raised £2,500 for injured servicemen and their families.

The bike was won by Mally Lloyd from north Lincolnshire and Mr Payne said he was “absolutely excited” by his good fortune.

“Someone who helps me rang up Mally to say he was the proud owner of a new bike and he was absolutely excited,” Mr Payne said.
