PUPILS from Gleed Girls’ Technology College in Spalding held a three-hour bag pack at Morrisons in Pinchbeck to raise cash to fund a scheme that helps new starters settle into life at the school.

Deputy head girl Jessica Preval said: “The peer mentoring scheme encourages older students to welcome, befriend and support younger students, mainly the year sevens, and help them with any problems they may have, whether it’s friends, homework or schoolwork.”

Until now the scheme has been funded by Aimhigher but the organisation will no longer exist from September so the fundraising session was vital to keep the scheme up and running.

Twelve peer mentors packed bags and raised £295.67 from grateful customers.

Jessica said: “We would like to thank Morrisons and all the staff for having us and especially the public who donated money to our scheme.”

Money raised will help pay for mentors’ badges and end of year reward trips to thank them for taking part.
