Asbestos clean-up at allotments
LONG Sutton Parish Council is looking at a clean-up operation after asbestos cement was used to fill a couple of potholes on the allotments.
Coun Bobbie Ashton reported the matter to the council on Thursday and told members: “We need to look at having that particular hazard removed.”
l Coun Julian Browse said another allotment holder has had suffered a shed break-in and asked members to consider stepping up security.
He said all over the country allotments have high fences around them and allotment holders have keys to gates.
But chairman John Clarey said: “We decided against gates at the last meeting.”
And Coun Ashton said allotment holders should not leave valuables on site.

Monday, January 30, 2012 at 09:52 PMHere in Leicester our allotment is surrounded by a 8ft metal fence on one side and houses on the other 3,.We all have a key to the 12ft wide gate. As luck would have it one of our allotment holders is a policeman complete with dog who does the rounds at night.
